Our Story
Alaska WorkSource (AWS) was created to meet real workforce needs across Alaska. As jobs and tools evolve, so do we—integrating practical training and new technologies to prepare people for today’s worksites, offices, and decks.
We offer hands-on vocational training and life/work-ethic coaching that help participants build confidence and step into meaningful roles. Every person starts with a simple assessment of interests, aptitudes, work history, and transferable skills. From there, we map a tailored training plan that fits local opportunities and personal goals.
Our approach is whole-person and safety-first. Coordinators provide case management and skills sessions—conflict resolution, money management, parenting resources, and more—plus wraparound support (including counseling and wellness resources) so participants can focus on learning, practicing, and progressing. The result: people who are job-ready, resilient, and prepared to secure and keep good work.
What we offer
-
Hands-on training: construction & housing basics, administration/office readiness, and maritime (tug-and-barge/deckhand prep).
-
Clear next steps: assessment → plan → cohort training → practice with real equipment → ongoing coaching.
-
Life & work skills: communication, teamwork, time management, and work ethics.
-
Wraparound support: case management and wellness resources to stay on track.
-
