OUR OUR PROGRAMS — WHERE EVERYONE STARTS

Success Training

Every participant at Alaska WorkSource starts here, whatever trade comes next. Skills get you hired; habits keep you hired — and most jobs aren't lost because someone couldn't do the work. They're lost to everything around the work: the missed mornings, the conflict that boiled over, the stress nobody taught you to carry. Success Training is where those things stop being reasons a job ends.

THE CURRICULUM

What You'll Learn

Success Training is custom-built around your individualized plan, covering the emotional, practical, and theoretical sides of achieving — confidence and coping, workplace skills and communication, and the understanding of why these skills work, so they hold up when nobody's coaching you.

THE STRUCTURE

How Training Runs

Sessions run in groups, built around practice instead of lectures — mock interviews with real feedback, resume drafts you actually keep, roleplayed conflicts before you face live ones. The training is designed around the science of hopeful thinking: higher hope levels are linked to better performance and stronger resilience, so every session is built to turn helplessness into a sense of control and momentum. If treatment is part of your plan, nationally accredited outpatient care through our behavioral health partner Tután runs alongside these weeks — woven into your schedule, not delaying it.

AFTER THIS PHASE

Where It Leads

Success Training is the doorway to your vocational track — construction & housing, administration & office, or maritime. But what you build here doesn't stay in this phase: the communication carries onto the job site, the steadiness onto the deck, the confidence into the interview. Every phase after this one leans on what starts here.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Everyone completes Success Training, including people with long work histories — but "custom-built" means yours won't waste your time. If your communication is solid, your plan leans into what isn't. Most experienced workers tell us afterward the part they'd have skipped was the part they needed.

  • Neither, exactly. It's group workshops built around practice — mock interviews, roleplayed conflicts, real resume drafts — closer to training camp than a classroom. If counseling is part of your plan, that happens separately through Tután; these sessions are about skills you'll use at work.

  • You're describing most people in the room on day one. Groups exist because workplaces are groups — crews, offices, decks — and this is the safest possible place to practice being in one. Nobody's put on the spot before they're ready, and getting steadier in a room full of people is quietly one of the biggest things this phase builds.

  • It's the first weeks of your program, with the exact shape set by your individualized plan — participants who don't need treatment services often move through faster. Whatever your pace, you'll know your timeline from day one, because it's written into your plan at orientation.

  • Your track gets named in your plan at orientation, so you'll know where you're headed while you're here — and everything in these weeks points toward it. If the trade starts to feel wrong once you've learned more, the plan can flex; that's a conversation with your case manager, not a locked door.

GET STARTED

Cost & Getting Started

Orientation is a conversation, not a test. We'll walk you through the program honestly, answer your questions, and start building the plan — and the relationship — that carries you through. Come on your own or through a referring agency; either door leads to the same place.
